Giant Bubbles in Portmeirion Festival Number Six, Summer festival

Some of our favourite outdoor bubble spots and free activity locations for kids this summer.

As you know, North Wales is home to our Giant Bubbles. As we tell the kids, this is also home to the Welsh Mountain Dragons, whose essence we use in making our magic bubble brew :D

We love where we live, and here we’ve compiled a short list of our 5 top favourite places to get outside and make fabulous giant bubbles this Summer.

If you are out and about, the best easy-to-carry kit for instant bubbling is our Pocket Kit. You can pre-mix your dragon juice in the bucket before setting off, and then you’ll be ready to bubble on arrival. We would recommend making up half a litre (so half your 100ml bottle) The lid on the bucket is designed to be totally water-tight when shut properly, but always wise to keep your bucket inside a plastic bag if it’s going in your rucksack – on trecks we also wrap our bubble wands in a tea-towel or small towel when wet.

Pen y Pass – Snowdon

Here be Dragons.. soak in the fantastic views, take a walk up the Pyg Track or Miner’s Track, or challenge yourself along Crib Goch to reach the summit of Snowdon. Or simply stop to make bubbles and watch them split and flurry about in the winds, take some stunning pictures, of views and giant bubbles, and why not finish of with a lovely panad (or cuppa) in the newly refurbished YHA Mallory restaurant, or in the wonderfully located Nant Gwynant campsite.

Llyn Padarn – Padarn Lake, Llanberis

With the Snowdonia mountain range as a backdrop, this iconic view makes for perfect bubble pictures, and sums up some of the best of North Wales. Home to Surfines and the legendary lagoons– a perfect location for watersports and a paddle, Pete’s Eats (a must for a pint of tea and some great nosh), the Snowdonia Mountain Railway, Electric Mountain and Dolbadarn Castle.. well of course it also needs our Giant Bubbles!

Portmeirion

This Italianate village, built on the estuary, is home to some stunning architecture and every year in late summer, hosts Festival Number 6, an extravaganza of the senses, with some pretty awesome music to boot! Home also to the iconic cult classic ‘The Prisoner’. Once you’ve arrived in the Piazza, you will understand why our Giant Bubbles are the perfect addition to your visit here.

Castell Conwy – Conwy Castle

What trip to North Wales could be done without a visit to our stunning castles. And what a great place to have fun with the bubbles than bubbling off one of the castle walls and watching the bubbles float away into the distance over the estuary, scenic harbour and Conwy Valley in the distance. Of course, you can always pretend the bubbles are indeed dragons and become valiant knights in shining armours to fight them off..

Ynys Llandwyn – Llandwyn Island

One of the most romantic locations in the world, every trip to North Wales should include a walk out to this most beautiful of islands. Cut off from Newborough beach and the forest only at the highest of tides, it is an easily accessible and stunning location. From here you will see views of the whole of the Snowdonia mountain range, all the way down to the Llyn Peninsula. On a good day you can easily catch sight of seals and if you’re very lucky a pod of bottlenose dolphins. Plenty of seabirds, cormorants, terns, gannets and manx can be seen here. The giant bubbles here are a great reward for little ones after a longish walk out and look stunning against the lighthouse and celtic crosses.
