World Coconut Day is celebrated every year on the 2nd of September and we are joining in at Dr Zigs as we are big fans of one of nature’s most versatile plants!
LET’S TALK COCONUTS
The Coconut itself is an incredibly nutritious food source. All the good fats come from the white flesh and the oil, milk, and water contained within are all rather spectacularly beneficial for our bodies too. The components that make up a Coconut can be used in hundreds of different ways from cosmetic products to decorating! Who knew?!
Turns out the humble Coconut Shell also makes the most perfect Bubble Bucket!
DR ZIGS COCONUT BUCKETS
Our Dr Zigs Coconut Buckets come from the Bên Tre region in Southern Vietnam. The local farmers there have earned a living for years selling coconut by-products such as coconut oils and coconut milks. A Coconut tree on average can produce up to 180 Coconuts in a single year! Once the Coconuts had been stripped for their favourable insides the shells/husks were previously discarded. In fact, the shells were burned to help clear the way to plant new crops. We had a better idea…
Now these farmers are no longer burning empty Coconut husks; they’re making a second income making Dr Zigs fabulously sized Bubble Buckets! Once the Shells are cleaned and prepped we have them beautifully etched with an intricate pattern and, of course, our Dr Zigs Bubble Logo. The up-cycled Shells are totally unique, so size and shapes can vary slightly, but we think this just adds to their charm!
No chemicals or pesticides are used to grow these Coconuts, which means they’re safe to be used for food too so after you’ve cleaned the Bubble Mix out of your Bucket you could fill it with fruit, noodles, cereals, ice cream you name it! We’re quite fond of taking these buckets out on adventures. They are perfect to collect stones and shells from the beach or fallen leaves and flower petals. Buckets full of Bubbles or treasure - you can use them however you like!
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR COCONUT BUCKET
Every so often your Coconut Bucket could benefit from a bit of tlc to keep it in tip top shape. You can treat your Bubble Bucket by rubbing the outside with a little coconut oil. This can prevent any drying and/or natural cracks that may occur. It’ll help it last longer too.
These Coconut Buckets are pretty tough though, the one in these pictures has literally been kicking about in a Campervan for 18 months and used constantly. They’re amazingly robust!
DR ZIGS BUBBLE FOAMER
We don’t just love Coconuts because they make great Bubble Buckets, we also use them to make our Bubble Foamers too. Our Foamers are made from a Bamboo stem and topped with reclaimed Coconut husk matting. The Coconut matting is made from the hairy outer husks of Coconuts, this is normally a waste product too, so it’s pretty cool to be able to give it a new life! The Bamboo foamer is easy to hold, especially for little hands and the Coconut matting is perfect for making huge Bubble snakes!
WHY WORLD COCONUT DAY MATTERS TO DR ZIGS
We’re really doing our best to be the change when it comes to finding, sourcing and implementing natural sustainable materials across our product range. We love that our products are plastic free and eco friendly. The journey continues…!
